Commons Lab SANDBOX — Cohort 0 Showcase presents a place-based sandbox platform for purpose-built neighbourhood innovation. Running from 26 November to 3 December, the showcase introduces the platform and its first cohort of seven teams.

Commons Lab is a civic front porch for western Hong Kong Island: a place where ideas can surface early, be tested in real conditions, improved through collaboration and carried forward by partners able to sustain them. The Sandbox co-creates with startups that share its values, giving them a platform to build and test bigger ideas in the neighbourhood.

Placemaking is the starting point of this model. Projects and relationships are organised around shared values, strong connections and a deep link to nature, guided by the conviction that culture, education, social equity and biodiversity are fundamental to building communities. This connects the development of an idea with the place, people and relationships that can support it over time.

Cohort 0 brings together Archi Studio, Better Futures, Elevate Foods, O2EZ, One Day Tailor, Ecobricks and Fullnature. The showcase offers an introduction to these teams within the Sandbox’s shared approach to neighbourhood innovation. It provides a way to understand the platform’s purpose: helping aligned startups develop ideas through real-world testing and collaboration, with pathways for partners to carry the work forward.
