Dialogue: Made in Hong Kong brings local craft and contemporary making into conversation at Commons Lab on 20 November, from 18:30 to 20:00. The planned line-up includes designers and makers from hkglaze 香港釉藥研究, woodworking team MADE, and bamboo craft artist Jinno Neko 神野貓. Together, their practices offer different ways to explore what it means to make in, and respond to, Hong Kong today.
The discussion will move across ceramic glazes, wood and bamboo. Hong Kong glaze research opens questions about the colours and materials of a place, including how everyday discarded matter can become part of ceramic surfaces. MADE’s approach to furniture and prototyping offers a perspective on the time, thought and material understanding involved in turning wood into objects that accompany daily life. Jinno Neko’s work with bamboo frameworks and paper craft connects traditional techniques with contemporary artistic expression.
Through these perspectives, the evening will explore how experimentation and inherited knowledge inform one another, and how craft can carry local stories into new forms. What gives an object a connection to Hong Kong? How can making remain relevant to everyday life while allowing traditions to evolve?
The dialogue invites audiences to look closely at the people, processes and decisions behind handmade objects, and to consider how local craft contributes to the city’s cultural life. Speaker participation and the detailed programme remain subject to confirmation.
