reEDIT Future Lab is a working laboratory in Wan Chai where waste becomes raw material, raw material becomes craft, and craft becomes a new way of seeing the world. To date, reEDIT has diverted more than 6,227 kg of plastic from landfill, turning it into products, retail environments and installations for partners including Mercedes-Benz, L'Occitane, The North Face and more.
For DESIGN@HKG 2026, the Lab opens its doors for the Upcycled Mini Lamp Workshop, a 90-minute hands-on session that puts circular design directly into participants' hands.
The session begins with a live demonstration of reCODING, reEDIT's in-house 3D-printing system, as recycled PET (rPET) is printed layer by layer in front of the group. Participants then build and customise their own mini lamp, combining a 3D-printed rPET shade with a four-layer recyclable cardboard structure, and choosing the colours and form that make it their own.
Along the way, the reEDIT team shares the thinking behind the Lab: how local plastic waste is sorted, shredded and transformed into printable material, and how small design decisions determine what a material can become. Participants also see the injection-moulding machine and sheet press running inside the Lab.
No experience is needed. Every participant leaves with a finished mini lamp made from recycled plastic - and a clearer picture of how Hong Kong's waste can become Hong Kong's design.
